"Second release for the promising Rump Recordings label, after 2004's initial release, the debut album from Rumpistol. 'Rump Comp Volume One', is a collection of tracks from various newcomers (oRfeUs and Melk) and experienced, established artists (Manual & Syntaks and Prinz Ezo) showcasing the best in Danish electronic music." 9/10
Denmark's eminently likeable Rump Recordings has seen fit to assemble this rather lovely collection of their favourite Scandinavian electronica, providing an excellent showcase for the label. The first side features contributions from Karsten Pflum, Rune Grammofon graduate Skyphone (with a gorgeous piece of acoustic-electronica) and Sofus Forsburg, whose warm, snappy programming kicks the record off with the aptly named 'Hallo'. The second continues in a similar vein with established big hitters like Manual & Syntaks laying their balmy electronic wares next to lesser-known talents like Theodor Zox, Rumpistol/Sortie and oRfeUs. A particularly well-suited companion release to this week's excellent Badun long-player. Lovely stuff.
Der er således rigeligt med gode grund til at parkere gumpen i sofaen og lade sig indføre i den danske electronica-scene med 'Rump Comp', der gennemgående byder på fine løfter om et godt år med nye bidrag til det danske lydbillede.
Each band produced tracks with a bit of that characteristic Nordic melancholic vibe but giving their personal interpretation of the initial request by focusing the structure on rhythm, melody, atmosphere or a mixture of the three. Bleeps, alternative dance, electronic experimentations and a bit of melancholy will entertain you for about one hour.
"Second release for the promising Rump Recordings label, after 2004's initial release, the debut album from Rumpistol. 'Rump Comp Volume One', is a collection of tracks from various newcomers (oRfeUs and Melk) and experienced, established artists (Manual & Syntaks and Prinz Ezo) showcasing the best in Danish electronic music.
Two main themes lead the course of the album besides the obvious electronic side of things, namely in the genres of hip-hop and dub. A settling influence of glitch and dub taint the rhythmic, pulsing basslines of Kriipis Tulo and the crunchy precision of Opiate-esque opener 'Hallo', by Sofus Forsberg. Yet samples and beat-heavy loops dictate the more upbeat offerings from Manual & Syntaks and the Boards Of Canada inspired 'Ms-Horn', by Karsten Pflum.
More individual tracks are the organic, man-made IDM of Skyphone and Zoffman's goofy vocal cut-ups, keyboards and indietronics of his 'Kaffe Smoger & The'. The latter of which bares an uncanny resemblance to the work of Ai Records artist, Yellotone.
With so many different styles at work, it's surprising to find how smooth-flowing and perfect the running order is, yet 'Rump Comp Volume 1' finds itself at the fore-front of current electronic albums. A beautifully crafted collection that improves and rewards with each listen." 9/10
