Badun
Biography from 2007:
Badun´s adventurous, and narrative music is the product of three people (Oliver Duckert, Aske Krammer & Hjalte Møller) from very different musical backgrounds. In 2001 the group was formed with the ambition to create a new musical genre, somewhere in between abstract digital sound design, non-repetitive electronica and the free spirit of seventies fusion jazz.
The first couple of years was spend experimenting with different styles which led to a very strict working method: All sounds used by the band have to be been generated, recorded and manipulated by the band themselves. This approach tells a lot about the bands very organic attitude and strict working process, that allows no room for easy sampling solutions.
Baduns music is based on recordings of traditional instruments such as fretless bass, vibraphone, guitar, rhodes and drums, as well as various field recordings which is being manipulated through homemade software based on neural networks (ie: the computer makes its own musical decisions based on musical observations). These elements are then being rearranged by the band in a very detailed manner, which results in an interesting tension between control and chaos.
Badun´s fast beats and complex arrangements expects a lot of the listener and share certain similarities with the early work of Flanger (Burnt Friedman and Atom Heart´s jazz/electronica project).
Apart from having done remixing for Vektormusik & Organiseret Riminalitet, the group has also had the honour of opening the Stella Polaris compilations twice in 2005 and in 2006.
Badun´s debut album was released in April, 2007 on Rump Recordings, and was later licensed to FlyRec in Japan, who released it without the hidden track, but with a remix by Sora instead.
Badun is in 2011 a duo consisting of Oliver Duckert & Aske Krammer.
